Synopsis

Pursuing a multidisciplinary approach, this book demonstrates the best quality care for pregnant women and new mothers who may have complex social needs. It is the first book to bring together a blend of health care professionals, service users and charity workers with expertise in caring for and supporting perinatal women with complex social issues that affect their health and the type of care they require. Meeting the needs of these women is essential to attaining excellence in 21st century care provision.

The book provides these women a voice by highlighting their experiences; these are in turn combined with recommendations from specialists in the field, offering a unique mix of compassion and evidence-based guidance. From substance abuse, domestic violence and HIV, to same-sex parenting, female genital mutilation, homelessness and women in prison, it addresses a range of social issues and provides essential information on how they can best be met.

This book will benefit all health and social care professionals working in women's health, while also providing a valuable reference guide for maternity departments.
