Dr. Ela Segina took the degree in geography at the University of Primorska and graduated in coastal geomorphology and GIS in 2012. Her diploma thesis was awarded by the University of Primorska (Srečko Kosovel award). During her studies, she participated at the Erasmus student exchange at the Faculty for mathematics, physics and environmental sciences at the University of Sassari, Italy. She did the training at the National Marine Biological Station in Slovenia and the Erasmus training at the University of Malta. Between the years 2012 and 2016, she did the voluntary work at the international NGO CIPRA Slovenia. In 2013, she was awarded by the Society for Conservation GIS, USA, where she participated in the intensive GIS training in USA and Russia. She received her Ph.D. in Karstology at the University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia, in karst geomorphology and GIS. Her thesis Holistic spatial analysis of karst on Krk Island was international research in the cooperation with the University of Civil Engineering Rijeka, Croatia, and Karst research institute Postojna, Slovenia. From 2019 onward, she is employed as a Research Assistant at the Geological Survey of Slovenia, where she continues her research in karstology, GIS and geohazard. She has published several scientific papers in international scientific journals.
