9783031605550: Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion

Synopsis

Entropy and the second law are emphasized throughout, with focus on irreversible processes and work loss.

Insightful development of theory is accompanied by detailed solutions of example problems, which teach the required technical skills while giving insight into the multitude of thermodynamic processes and applications.

À propos de l?auteur

Henning Struchtrup is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria, in Victoria, BC, Canada. Before joining the University of Victoria in 2001, he obtained Diploma and PhD in Engineering Physics from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, and held postdoc positions in Berlin, Catania (Italy), and Minneapolis (USA). His teaching and research cover a wide range of topics in thermodynamics, from applications in energy systems, over nonequilibrium thermodynamics, to rarefied gas dynamics. He authored numerous scientific contributions and a monography on Macroscopic Transport Equations for Rarefied Gas Flows (Springer 2007). His textbook on Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion--now in the 2nd edition--is rooted in his desire to make thermodynamics, in particular entropy and the second law, accessible and relevant to students in engineering and applied sciences.
