Synopsis
Dans le présent travail, la prise de conscience croissante en ingénierie de la responsabilité de la profession envers l'environnement et les pauvres est prise en compte. L'approche suivante est adoptée : un bref aperçu des problèmes de pauvreté, en particulier aux États-Unis, et de la détérioration du monde naturel en mettant l'accent sur l'Arctique est fourni. Des études de cas impliquant la Nouvelle-Orléans à la suite de l'ouragan Katrina et le statut des ours polaires à une époque de rétrécissement de la couverture de glace arctique sont détaillées. Les développements récents de l'ingénierie liés aux questions de pauvreté et d'environnement sont discutés. Un nouveau paradigme d'ingénierie basé sur les œuvres de Leonardo Boff et Thomas Berry, qui met l'accent sur une communauté, est exploré.
