Synopsis

In this book George Gonzalez defends Hegelian metaphysics against the dogma of scientism by using storylines from Star Trek and Star Wars to illustrate the idea that there are metaphysical concepts and realities known and experienced by humans that are not susceptible to scientific explanation. The book also shows how scientism is a philosophical doctrine that lends itself to amoral political regimes, while the Hegelian dialectic points toward an egalitarian society based on a concept of justice. These ideas are explored through reconstructions and references to various scenes from the two popular series. This book will appeal to anyone interested in the intersections of philosophy and popular culture.
