This work studies the transformations of the Arthurian legend on German soil from the late medieval period up to the threshold of the Renaissance. The following works are analyzed: Wigamur, the Arthurian trilogy of Der Pleier, Parzival, Der Jüngere Titurel, Diu Crône, the Prose Lancelot, the Tristan narratives, and Der Nüwe Parzival.

The author: Neil Thomas is a lecturer in German in the University of Durham (England). His previous books have been A German View of Camelot (1987); The Medieval German Arthuriad (1989); Tristan in the Underworld (1991). He is preparing further volumes on the German heroic epic, on Wolfram von Eschenbach and on the French verse romances after Chrétien de Troyes and editing for publication a series of papers on Celtic and Germanic Themes in European Literature and on Myth and its Legacy in European Literature.
