It is believed that there are more than half a billion cars on the roads worldwide. All those vehicles have their vehicle identification number as their primary identifier. The vehicle identification number is actually a license number which states a legal license to participate in the public traffic. All world-wide vehicles should have its license number - written on a license plate mounted onto its body. There are several kinds of license plates used in the country. License plate used in India mostly consists of 8, 9, or 10 character. License plate is the ID of a vehicle. So, LPR is the important research topic now days. LPR system is composed of three parts, which are license plate detection, character segmentation and character recognition respectively. With the development of transportation technology and the universality of the vehicles, vehicle license plate management system has become a popular subject. License plate recognition applies image processing and character recognition technology to identify vehicles by reading their license plates. Anti-terrorism and public security is increasing worldwide and so on the global law enforcement has been deploying vehicle licence.
