The purpose of this work regards the ultra-wideband (UWB) signals, a term referred to a particular technique used to transmit and receive radiofrequency signals by means using very sharp temporal impulses, with a duration lower than picoseconds, and consequently with a frequency range that cover a wide spectrum. These impulses are made with a few wavelength cycles of a radiofrequency carrier, thus the associated frequency spectrum is extremely wide. The actual world of telecommunications is in a big change. The demand of wireless communications, new and more flexible channels with high speed rate and high quality service is growing since the last 20 years. To satisfy these tasks, new researches have been studied and pushed forward in the development. Lastly a communication wireless system, based on UWB signals, have been introduced. In this book, the main purpose will regard the introduction and the characterization of this new technology, showing in this way a different method to enable transmission of data for telecommunication applications, focused mostly in indoors localization.
