Chickpea is the third most important pulse crop among the pulses in the world. Thirty four countries are reported to grow chickpea however, only 19 countries have more than 20,000 hectares area. India, Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, Australia, Mexico, Ethiopia, Myanmar, Spain and Bangladesh are the major chickpea producing countries contributing 96 percent of global production. India is the largest producer of chickpea accounting for 64 percent of global production.Chickpea is mostly consumed in the form of processed whole seed (boiled, yeasted, parched, fried, steamed, sprouted etc) or dal and flour (besan). Gram is a good source of protein carbohydrate and fat.Keeping in view the importance of chickpea, a study was carried out to evaluate the chickpea (Cicer kabulium L.) germplasm (Kabuli) for yield and yield contributing traits at Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Allahabad India.This book is based on the above mentioned study.
