As a changing pattern in a changing world, the concept of work-life balance has become more popular since the days of increased globalization. Work-life balance reflects the individual’s orientation across different life roles, an inter role phenomenon involving work life as well as personal or family life. Along with the ever-expanding realities of globalization, economic liberalization and market-oriented economy; the emerging concept of 24x7work culture is progressively growing and turns out to be the motto in all sectors of industrial/institutional activities. At this juncture work-life balance becomes a problem of prominence and employees are at loggerheads to strike a balance between work and family life, leading to varied sorts of stress and strains. Therefore, the issue of balancing work and family responsibilities have become an issue of substance in HR management and attracted a great deal of attention in research, education and corporate world. During the last decade, a number of researchers have dealt with the subject from different perspectives and developed many new concepts and theories.

Dr. V. M. Rincy, M.B.E., M.B.A. is currently working as Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, Annamalai university. Her field of specialization is Human Resource management and the main area of research interest is work life balance, stress, quality of work life, organizational commitment etc.
