The Construction Industry Development Act No.33 of 2014 is provided for the development of Sri Lankan construction industry.The Act facilitates the resolution of disputes within the industry.But,there is ineffectiveness on implementation of ADR methods.Thus, this study focuses on developing a legal framework for an effective implementation of ADR methods for the settlement of disputes in the Sri Lankan construction industry. Firstly, the research was initiated with a literature survey.Secondly,a survey approach was implemented whereby two rounds of questionnaires were distributed and semi-structured interviews were conducted among construction professionals with more than ten years of experience. Results on questionnaires revealed the problems related to ADR methods used by construction industry and at the said Act. Further,it presented potential solutions to overcome those problems.Additionally, recommendations to the part IX of the Act granted by interviews.Through these results,legal framework for an effective implementation of ADR methods under the Act was developed. By practicing this framework, the projects can be continued without deadlock, whenever dispute has arisen.
