Synopsis
Mobile Communication is one of the most important research topics in current days. In mobile networks, managing location information of mobile terminals is one of the important issues for tracking the location of mobile users. The location management in GSM and IS-41 is performed by using two registers, HLR(Home Location Register) and VLR(Visitor Location Register).Chapter 1 of this book explains location registration and call delivery under GSM technology. In those cases for each Location Area change and location tracking updating and interrogation to the HLR is required even if caller and called Mobile Terminals are in the same Location Area (LA). This creates high cost for Location Registration and Location Tracking as it involves the use of costly bandwidth between the MSC and the HLR. The above scheme behave inefficiently for Mobile Terminals(MT) moving among the same set of areas or users call and move in a fixed pattern.
