Synopsis

Polyurethanes are a broad class of materials utilized in a variety of applications, such as foams, elastomers, thermoplastics, thermorigids, adhesives, coatings, sealants, fibers and so on. Polyurethanes are commonly synthesized by mixing two components: one hydroxyl-bearing monomer and a monomer with isocyanate groups. Significant research and development efforts have been spent on the preparation of polyurethane with the desired properties. In this study, different formulations of polyurethane foam were prepared and the produced polymer was characterized by measuring of compressive strength, tensile strength and SEM. Consequently, studying the effect of the prepared polyurethane foam on the properties of hardened cement mortar mixes by evaluating thermal and sound insulation and compare the results with mixes containing no polymer.
