Synopsis

The knowledge of vegetable growers about the side effects of pesticides in combination with personal and socio-psychological characteristics of the farmers are expected to lead to difference in perception of the problem. It is evident that there is low level of pesticides consumption in India as compared to other agriculturally advanced countries. The present study was conducted in five Talukas viz. Valod, Vyara, Songadh, Uchchal and Nizar of Tapi district of South Gujarat. More than two-third (70.83%) of respondents had medium level of knowledge about side effects of pesticides. Five variables namely social participation, land holding, extension contact, economic motivation and risk orientation contributed positively and significantly towards the knowledge of vegetable growers about the side effects of pesticides.

Mr. Arpit Jagdishbhai Dhodia has completed his M.Sc. (Agri.) in Agricultural Extension from Navsari Agricultural University, Gujarat, India. Recently he is pursuing Ph.D. in same university and also he has interests in rural development work and new researches regarding Agricultural Extension.
