Optical networks have emerged as a promising candidate for the next-generation communication networks. Enabling packet switching in the optical domain can provide cost-efficient and transparent transport services to end users. A commercial deployment of optical network requires detailed investigation of a number of networking challenges related to data transmission such as imprecise bandwidth demand per subscriber basis and its associated cost. In addition, optical networks are required to support differentiated Quality of Service (QoS) and accommodate multiple service providers that emerged made this problem very challenging. The algorithms introduced in this book takes into account of various optimization factors combined with a simulation study. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithms achieve QoS in optical networks by reducing network cost and connection blocking ratio.
