Scientific Study from the year 2021 in the subject Sport - Sport Medicine, Therapy, Nutrition, University of Innsbruck (Central University of Nicaragua), course: Interuniversity College for Health and Development Graz-Innsbruck Austria, language: English, abstract: Unravel the mysteries of sight and skill! Delve into a groundbreaking investigation that challenges long-held beliefs about eye dominance and its intricate connection to manual actions. This research embarks on a fascinating journey to explore "Manually Influenced Eye Dominance (MIED)," revealing how our hands can subtly, yet significantly, alter which eye takes the lead. By meticulously comparing the established Porta Test with an innovative Circular Test, this study uncovers inconsistencies in eye dominance across diverse tasks and gaze directions. Discover how the interplay between hand-eye coordination and motor control shapes our perception, potentially revolutionizing fields from sports science to clinical diagnostics. The study, featuring right-handed tennis players, meticulously examines the influence of manual motor tasks on ocular dominance. Challenging the traditional view of a fixed relationship between eye and hand, this investigation uncovers the dynamic nature of visual processing. Explore the depths of the visual system as it adapts to different manual demands, revealing the practical applications of understanding MIED. Utilizing rigorous statistical methods, including the chi-squared test, the research meticulously analyzes data from both the Porta Test (PT) and Circular Test (CT), providing a comprehensive assessment of eye dominance. Uncover the complexities of Experiment 2a (E2a) and 2b (E2b), extended two-handed validity tests, designed to further explore the nuances of eye dominance switching. Embark on a journey that questions assumptions and opens new avenues for optimizing performance and rehabilitation strategies, paving the way for future research into the intricacies of human perception and action, with key insights into hand-eye coordination and visual dominance. A new understanding of how our bodies coordinate movement and vision, this study challenges existing paradigms and offers a fresh perspective on the interplay between our senses and motor skills. Through a rigorous analysis, the study sheds light on the dynamic interplay between vision and action. The exploration of eye dominance, hand-eye coordination, and motor control provides valuable insights for athletes, clinicians, and anyone seeking to optimize their performance. This reveals how manual tasks dynamically influence eye dominance, opening new avenues for enhancing human performance and understanding the complexities of the human sensorimotor system. This study challenges conventional wisdom and promises to reshape our understanding of how we see and interact with the world around us. This investigation offers a compelling exploration of MIED, paving the way for future research and practical applications in various fields.

The human visual system seems to offer various control mechanisms in order to provide the motor system with all necessary information for optimizing performance. Previous studies have shown that input through the visual system seems to dominate other sensory systems and that it is the sensory source, upon which we rely the most.A circular manual motor Task with the thumb and the index finger can influence the eye dominance. This assumption was tested on thirty-one right-handed healthy tennis players. The subjects performed two different hand-eye dominance screening tests, the conventional Porta Test and the new Circular Test that were compared separately one-handed, with the right hand as well as additionally combined with the left hand. The right-handed classifications were defined as: crossed (right-hand/left-eye) and consistent (right-hand/right-eye). The left-handed classifications were defined as: crossed-switch (eye dominance switches with the test hand); consistent (same dominance in eyes and hands). 28 pp. Englisch.
