[The Catechism by David Chytraeus]The disciple of Melanchthon and university professor, David Chytraeus (1531-1600), is scientifically renowned as author of a Protestant catechism. The Latin text was published for the first time in 1554 and printed in 1599. It is edited here according to modern standards and with commentaries for the first time. Furthermore, The CATECHESIS IN ACADEMIA Rostochiana ex praelectionibus Davidis Chytraei collecta is translated from the Neo-Latin into German for the first time. This edition enables researchers to study a religious instruction which was widely read at schools and universities in the 16th century.
