Better Bread Begins with Better Baking Notes
Learning to bake great bread takes flour, water, patience-and plenty of experimentation.
One loaf rises beautifully. Another behaves completely differently. Change the hydration, starter, temperature, fermentation time or proofing, and suddenly you have an entirely different loaf.
Bread Baking for Beginners gives home bakers a dedicated place to record those variables so every bake becomes an opportunity to learn.
Each detailed Baking Log lets you record your recipe, hydration percentage, oven temperature and bake time together with starter information, dough and ambient temperature, and final loaf shape. Record ingredient weights and follow your bread through autolyse, bulk fermentation, shaping, proofing and baking, noting the start and end of every stage.
Once your bread comes out of the oven, record observations about the crumb, crust and oven spring. There's even dedicated space to add a photo or sketch of the crumb structure.
Rate both crumb and taste using the five-star trackers, then write down exactly what you want to tweak next time-and what worked well enough to repeat.
But bread baking should also be fun.
The journal includes funny bread-baking reflections about starters, kneading, rustic loaves, beginner-baker mishaps and the emotional roller coaster of waiting for dough to rise. These pages provide space to record your date and mood, what the thought means to you, your own experiences, how you'll act on it, a word to carry forward and someone you'd like to share it with.
Inside You'll FindWhether you're feeding your first sourdough starter or trying to understand why one loaf produced the perfect open crumb while another didn't, Bread Baking for Beginners helps turn trial and error into a useful record of your progress.
