Georg Hermann (1871-1943), der wegen seiner ironischen Schilderung von Milieu und Menschen als »jüdischer Fontane« bezeichnet wurde, veröffentlichte seinen berühmten Roman aus dem Berliner Biedermeier 1906: Jettchen Gebert, Tochter aus einer wohlhabenden jüdisch-deutschen Familie, verliebt sich in den mittellosen Literaten Kößling. Doch die Familie ist gegen Kößling, nicht zuletzt, weil er Christ ist. Stattdessen soll Jettchen den aus Posen stammenden windigen Geschäftemacher Jacoby heiraten. Widerwillig beugt sich Jettchen der Familie. Doch bei der Hochzeit kommt es zum Eklat.
