The nondestructive characterization (NDC) of materials by electromagnetic techniques was born at least 50 years ago. A series of symposia was started in 1983, which was a considerable success. 225 scientists from 14 different countries took part in the last symposium held in Saarbrcken. The present proceedings volume represents the current level of knowledge in the field of NDC of materials.
