Synopsis

Volume 20 describes compounds containing bonds between the tin atom and Main Group IV to Main Group I elements. Many stable substances with Sn-Si, Sn-Ge, and Sn-B bonds have been reported and are treated in the first part of this volume, including molecular structures such as R3SnMR'3 (M = Si, Ge, and Pb) and a few specific tin-borane compounds. The second part of the volume deals with compounds of limited stability that have Sn-Mg, Sn-Li, Sn-Na and Sn-K bonds. These compounds, nevertheless, have been widely used as a means for synthesis, and their reactions with a large variety of organic substrates are summarized in several tables. In addition, interesting structural features of two Sn-lithium compounds are presented.
