Synopsis
This text comprises selected papers from the prestigious Stonwin Medical Conference, which each summer invites a group of internationally prominent scientists, bioengineers, neurosurgeons and radiologists to explore and discuss a selected topic of neurosurgical investigation. It addresses recent advances in research and practice of surgery of the severed spinal cord. Once considered hopeless, the possibility of spinal cord regeneration and concomitant recovery of neurological function has led to intense investigation. The results of such pioneering investigative work are explored in this volume. Comprehensive information and relevant discussion is presented in the areas of basic science, radiology and neuroimaging, concepts in bioengineering, and fetal tissue transplantation and surgical experience with spinal cord injury.
