Those variables that generally attract teachers to the profession are not always the same as those that retain them and keep them satisfied with their career path. Therefore, the discovery of the teachers' perceptions regarding the factors which have impact on their job satisfaction may prove to be a very useful type of study. The influences of gender, age, years of teaching experience and requirements of the profession, including educational reform efforts, are considered as they have the potential to play a significant role in the teachers' belief systems. By providing multiple approaches for satisfaction enhancement, educational leaders may ultimately enable a maximum number of teachers to experience fulfillment within their career, which in turn may lead to students reaching higher achievement standards.
