Synopsis

Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a new family ofnetworks that collects information by the help of thecollaborative work of several sensor nodes. In thisbook, a new WSN for military monitoring (MILMON) isproposed. MILMON monitors its environment and reportsthe sensed events as soon as possible to the sink.WSNs are application specific and all designconsiderations are different for each application.Especially, military application requirements arevery special. Design considerations of MILMON areenergy consumption, delay and fault tolerance. Timesynchronization, data indicator slot and timescheduling mechanisms are essential parts of the newsystem. SyncHRT which is a new synchronization schemais proposed to minimize energy consumption and tomaximize precision. Newly proposed data indicatorslot mechanism (DISM) helps to reduce energyconsumption. A new time slot distribution mechanism,ft_DTSM is also proposed for the new militarymonitoring system. Although there are WSN systemsthat perform better than our system for only energyconsumption or for only delay, new proposed sensornetwork realizes an optimization on energy, delay andfault tolerance.
