The information in this book uncovers the thoughts and feelings of two women triathletes struggling with motivation during a triathlon. Both women interviewed dealt with inhibiting external motivating factors even they realized that the intrinsic reasons for participating were more important. One tried to deal with the extrinsic factors and return to the intrinsic while the other continued to use extrinsic factors to motivate her even though she strove to understand the intrinsic aspects. What kept them both going? One of these athletes was spiritually committed to completing her triathlon because of internal motivators and she was committed to rediscovering what made it enjoyable and fun for her. The other athlete was primarily driven by external factors and things that were out of her control. Although this kept her somehow motivated to continue it was clear that it wasn't quite enough because she was always looking for a reason to quit and the need to endure was concerned with what other people thought. It is clear that this athlete?s scars surrounding quitting has a big impact on her life.
