Revision with unchanged content. As Goa, India increasingly becomes an important international tourist destination, its people must define their identity in order to compete with other popular vacation sites. Defining identity is essential because it is one of the most useful marketing tools for promoting tourism. This work discusses what Goan identity is and the modern views of it held by scholars through its literature. It also analyzes the changes this identity has undergone during the twentieth and twenty first centuries. The subjects of this analysis emphasized are the effects of Goan identity because of the language controversy and the Goan diaspora. This work uses sources such as novels, short stories, plays, pamphlets, periodicals, and internet newspapers. The importance of looking at these sources is to present how Goans view themselves and not how others already perceive them. If we understand how they view themselves, then in the future, they will be able to market their history and culture in an authentic way to the rest of the world. This book is addressed for researchers interested in Goan literature, history and culture, identity issues, and marketing of foreign destinations.
