Synopsis

This book is about the changes the Indian Trade Policy in general and the Textile Policy, in particular went through over the period and the performance of the Garment Export Industry from 1981-82 to 2015-16, the study period. The period witnessed an era of economic reforms and export promotion since 1991. From the analysis it is found that, the average rate of increase in exports of RMGs during the period 1981-82 to 1990-91, the pre-liberalisation period was higher than the rate achieved during the period 1991-92 to 2015-16, the post-liberalisation period. This book tries to focus attention on the likely causes for this lowered performance of the Garment Export Industry of India.

Dr. Prashant Prabhakar Deshpande, a Gold-Medalist in Economics taught Business Economics at U.G and P.G. levels at the S.N.D.T University, Mumbai, India for 31 years. He has more than 30 publications in National & International Journals on varied topics. He was Controller of Examinations at the University from 1998 to 2004.
