New tendencies, developmental educational models and theoretical perspectives tends to emphasis more the significance of developing effective learning strategies, constructive and creative problem solving and learning from various sources. The aim of this, by its character applied explicatory research, was to discover whether the application of problem based learning in studying and teaching literature correspond to the literary abilities, critical attitudes and creative thinking of students. The research showed that problem based learning, as a modern teaching strategy, enables new and creative approach to the literature. This puts the students in the position of a subject that approaches the problem in a creative and critical way, while developing their creativity (fluency, originality, flexibility, sensibility, etc.) and capability of critical approach to interpretation of the text, confrontation of opinions, argumentation, and individual work.
