Le cancer du sein est la croissance incontrôlée de cellules anormales qui commencent dans le sein. C'était et toujours le cancer le plus commun diagnostiqué chez les femmes dans le monde entier. Dans ce livre, des systèmes de détection assistée par ordinateur (CADe) et de diagnostic assisté par ordinateur (CADx) sont développés et appliqués aux bases de données standard MIAS et DDSM pour distinguer les différents tissus mammaires. Dans les deux systèmes CAO, les régions d'intérêt (ROI) sont sélectionnées, puis un ensemble de 422 fonctionnalités est extrait et normalisé. La sélection des fonctionnalités est effectuée en utilisant des méthodes statistiques telles que t-test, KS-test et W-test et d'autres méthodes en utilisant Matlab PR-Toolbox telles que SBS, SFS, SFFS et BBS. Ensuite, quatre classificateurs utilisés y compris KNN, SVM, LDA et QDA pour l'étape de classification. Les systèmes proposés ont été évalués à l'aide de nombreux indices tels que la précision globale, le facteur de Cohen-k, la sensibilité, la spécificité, la PPV, la VAN et l'aire sous courbe (AUC) des courbes ROC. CADx a les mêmes étapes, mais la sortie est différente où elle indique la probabilité de malignité de la lésion. Les deux systèmes CAO ont fourni des résultats encourageants. Ces résultats étaient différents selon la méthode de sélection.
