Le but de l'étude était de tester la perspective théorique qui liait la technologie Classworks aux résultats en lecture des élèves de quatrième année afin de déterminer s'il existait une différence significative dans la réussite de lecture des élèves entre les utilisations supplémentaires du programme de lecture du logiciel Classworks et celle de l'enseignement en classe standard. L'étude a comparé l'intervention logicielle Classworks de l'enseignement standard qui utilisait un groupe d'élèves de quatrième année dans une école à un groupe d'élèves de quatrième année dans une autre école dans deux petits districts scolaires ruraux en Caroline du Sud. La variable indépendante de l'enseignement Classworks a été définie comme l'intervention ou le traitement et a été fournie à un groupe d'élèves de quatrième année en plus de leur programme de lecture standard. La variable dépendante était généralement définie comme une instruction de lecture standard en classe sans le supplément du programme Classworks. Trois questions de recherche ont été testées dans le cadre de l'approche de conception quasi-expérimentale en utilisant des données quantitatives.
