The field of Queueing Theory, which is concerned with the study and behavior of systems with waiting lines, has been a prominent subfield of applied mathematics and statistics for almost a century. When reading queueing theory reviews however, it becomes evident that the practical applications of queueing theory have been limited. This work introduces the reader to the basic concepts in queueing theory, before using simulation modeling to conduct an analysis of a complex real life queueing system, at a logistics hub for a steel producing company in Linz, Austria.
