Synopsis
"The Physics of Atoms and Quanta" is presented here in its fourth edition which is now identical with the 5th German edition. It is written primarily for undergraduates in physics and chemistry: the student will find here a total of 160 problems and their solutions. This textbook gives a unique introduction to both experiments and theory in this field. Recent developments have been included, and the book is therefore also directed at active researchers needing an up-to-date reference book.

The Physics of Atoms and Quanta is a thorough introduction to both experiments and theory of this field. Every classical and modern aspect ist covered and discussed in detail. As this text ends with the fundamentals of classical bonding, it leads into the second and more advanced book by the ssame authors intitulated Molecular Physics and Elements of Quantum Chemistry. This corrected printing of the 4th edition includes new developments, for example detection of antihydrogen and the production of very highly ionised atoms. As usual, the student will find 160 problems and their solutions, which make this book a real study text.
