The present technical glossary dedicated to the speciality of obstetrics and gynaecology is a welcome addition as an aid to help the medical student, doctor and midwife in communicating better with Maltese patients. It should also serve as an excellent tool for translators and interpreters working on medical texts. The Academic Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University of Malta Medical School and the recently founded Humanities and Medical Science Programme (HUMS) of the same University have fully supported the compiler’s initiative who made particular efforts to give a Maltese explanation of medical terms to help doctors explain better medical situations to patients. The Humanities and Medical Science Programme (HUMS) proposes to explore and encourage interfaces between the humanities and medical science, and aims to facilitate and disseminate cross-disciplinary research. It also aims to offer opportunities for postgraduate study and research. HUMS aims for inclusion, and for collaboration with local and overseas centres, programmes and individuals.
