Synopsis

A survey was conducted in Khanchikot VDC of Arghakhanchi district during May, 2014 to assess the socioeconomic status and gender analysis of seed producers. For the study, 60 households were selected by using simple random sampling. Data were collected from pre-tested questionnaire by using face to face interview schedule. There were 56.67% seed producers and 43.3% non- producers and a comparative study was conducted between them. The average land holding size of seed producers was higher (20.13 ropani) than non- seed producers (12.54 ropani). Khoriya and rainfed land was more than khet and bari land. The land of male headed household is comparatively more irrigated than female headed households. Female headed households were active in farmers group (71.04 %) and male head households were active in both co-operatives and farmers group. Decision business operation, loan taking, bank account was taken by males and decision on cropping pattern, deficit labor use, religious and social works was taken by females.
