Synopsis

Wetlands are important natural resources providing both economic and ecological services to society. Increasing livelihood dependence is claimed to cause wetland degradation through impairing their ecological functions world wide. The nature of dependence and its impact on wetland ecosystem was therefore studied to give insight of wetland management in Bangladesh, a densely populated developing country. Wetland management issues of other countries were reviewed as well to get idea about best management practices. This book is therefore, intended to help the policy makers taking appropriate decision for sustainable wetland management.

Mahmuda Islam obtained B.Sc and M.Sc. degree from the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh. She joined the same department as a lecturer in 2012. Wetlands and climate change issues are the preferred fields of her resrarch. She is also interested to biodiversity.
