Les condensateurs ont été utilisés pour fournir une compensation de puissance réactive dans les systèmes de distribution. Ils sont fournis pour minimiser les pertes de puissance et pour maintenir le profil de tension dans les limites acceptables. Le problème de placement des condensateurs est un sujet bien étudié et a été abordé par de nombreux chercheurs. La plupart des approches ont le défaut commun d'être pris dans une solution locale tandis que l'optimisation de l'essaim de particules (PSO) recherche une solution globale en utilisant plusieurs chemins. Une nouvelle approche pour trouver la taille et l'emplacement optimaux des condensateurs à l'aide du PSO est rapportée dans ce travail. Le problème est de savoir comment déterminer de manière optimale l'emplacement d'installation des condensateurs, les types et les tailles des condensateurs à installer et pendant chaque niveau de charge, les schémas de contrôle de chaque condensateur dans les nœuds d'un réseau général de distribution radiale triphasé de sorte qu'une fonction objectif souhaitée est minimisée, tandis que les contraintes de charge, les contraintes de réseau et les contraintes opérationnelles à différents niveaux de charge sont satisfaites.
