Synopsis

Family is the basic unit of society. From where, our socialization, learning’s and all of these also started. Southern region of Bangladesh is one of the sufferers of various disasters like Sidre, AILA etc. The people of Kalinagar are being suffered from the impacts of AILA. The hypothesis was that, family structure was divested due to cyclone AILA. Main objectives are to know the pre and post family structure of AILA affected people and to know the livelihood status. The study based survey method and the number of samples are 145. This study found that, family type, family ties, family member relationship, income and expenditure, housing location and pattern are changed due to AILA. General people have been suffering again and again since last 2.5 years and falls problems in adaptation. They have already faced many problems and also facing uncertainty in their livelihoods. Road and embankments, water and agriculture crop production have been damaged fully due to AILA and it was quit impossible for communication. Cyclone shelter center and dam are not available in this area. Some of the respondents also plan to displacement from this place.

Tuhin Kumar Jodder was born in Khulna, Bangladesh. He completed his Bachelor and Master Degree in Sociology from Khulna University, Khulna-9208, Bangladesh. He is a Research Assistant of CRF, Bangladesh. His fields of expertise are family and social structure, disaster management,shrimp cultivation and various development issues of Bangladesh.
