Assam has an enormous potential for development of fisheries sector. Fish farming is a traditional practice in Assam and its importance in the state’s economy is next to agriculture, which is directly related to the rural economy. Integrated fish farming system largely practiced in Assam, are integrated livestock fish farming, integrated rice- fish farming, integrated horticulture- fish farming etc. The present study is conducted in Jorhat district of Assam. In the rural economy of Assam, the importance of fishery is next to agriculture. But very little is known about the technologies adopted by the farmers against the recommended ones as well as the pattern of resource utilization in integrated fish farming systems. Very few studies have been done at the micro level in Assam. The study is designed to look into the various problems faced by the farmers and to suggest possible remedies thereof. Thus, the present study is expected to highlight the various economical aspects of the integrated fish farming system adopted by the farmers of Jorhat district of Assam.
