Millions of people are displaced each year due to conflicts worldwide, majority of them being displaced internally in their own countries. The number of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) is two times that of refugees. The IDPs don’t get the aid meant for refugees as they don’t cross international borders and human rights violations are common during conflict and displacement. Due to the war on terror millions of people were displaced internally in northwest Pakistan including women and children and there were press reports of human rights violations and psychiatric morbidities among them. A major humanitarian crisis is feared if the displacement is prolonged. There was a need of research on human rights violations and psychiatric morbidities among these internally displaced women to inform policy makers, humanitarian agencies, human rights & women rights organizations to protect the rights of these women and avoid a major humanitarian crisis. This book estimates the psychiatric morbidities among the internally displaced women of northwest Pakistan & identifies the human rights violations of these women with policy implications & recommendations for the concerned stakeholders.
