Synopsis

This book is suitable for students, teachers and professionals who are working in signal processing and telecommunication field. It is the performance study of telecommunication system regarding quantization noise produced due to limited bit width in hardware. This book analyses some important aspects of quantization noise effect in LTE downlink channel estimation. An OFDM system model with LTE downlink standard is developed and analysed with respect to the performance in terms of BER with three channel estimation algorithm LS, FIR and LMMSE. First the simulation is done with floating-point arithmetic and then implemented with fixed-point arithmetic using an “in house” developed fixed-point toolbox to analyse the quantization noise effect. The content is basically focused on finding the amount of quantization noise in terms of BER, finding the affecting parameters and finally to suggest and study some techniques to mitigate the quantization noise effect. The simulation results have been mentioned along with MATLAB class codes that describe channel estimations and the implementation of an 'in house' fixed-point toolbox.
