Specialty corns viz., sweet corn, pop corn, baby corn, high oil corn etc. assume tremendous market potential not only in India but in international market as well. These specialty corns with their high market value are perfectly suitable to Para-urban agriculture. Sweet corn may used as raw or an ingredient in various preparations viz., chopsuey (Chinese dish), soups, deep fried sweet corn with meat and with other vegetables, pickles and corn pakoras etc. Yield loss due to weeds in maize varies from 28 to 93 %, depending on the type of weed flora and intensity and duration of crop-weed competition. Therefore an attempt has to be made to find out effective and economic weed management in sweet corn by integrating manual weeding and herbicides.
