Synopsis

The purpose of this study was to investigate the interaction processes in English language classrooms in Kericho Municipality public secondary schools in order to determine the nature and amount of contribution made to the overall classroom interaction process by the following classroom interaction elements: teacher talk, student talk, and instructional media materials and equipment. The study was guided by six objectives namely: To investigate the nature and frequency of teacher talk during classroom interaction in English language classes, to investigate the nature and frequency of student talk during interaction in English language classes, to compare teacher talk and student talk during classroom interaction in district and provincial public secondary schools in the study area, to find out other forms of teacher, and other forms of student interaction activities aside from talk, and finally to investigate the use of instructional media materials and equipment during classroom interaction in English language classes. Survey design was employed and the target population consisted of English language teachers and students. The study findings are discussed in this publication.

Biographie de l'auteur

John is a lecturer and a Ph.D candidate in the department of Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Management of Egerton University. He has been a long serving English teacher at secondary schools in Kenya as well as an examiner with the Kenya National Examinations Council. His area of interest is Neuropedagogy with regard to language learning.
