In this study, the author identifies the strengths and problems of the urban area and the surrounding rural areas to assist in determining how an urban centre influences the generation and dissemination of information basing on current knowledge on the informal sectors of environment and agriculture, their contribution on food supply and security in Kakamega town and its environmental impact on socio-economic development using ICT as a modern tool for planning and management for sustainable development in the area. It also addresses information for development gaps as they relate to: Women, Youth, and other disadvantaged rural groups in the study area and the entire republic.
