Synopsis

Allergic rhinitis, not life threatening, significantly affects the quality of the patient's life. The major steps in the treatment of allergic rhinitis are avoidance of the allergens, treatment of symptoms and immunotherapy. Avoidance of the allergen is not usually possible and symptom relief is often limited, despite the number of the pharmacological options. Specific immunotherapy demands a high level of cooperation on the part of the patient for at least 3 years. Endonasal phototherapy with the Rhinolight for the treatment of allergic rhinitis is a new option that uses the immunosuppressive effects of ultraviolet radiation.
