In Malaysia, Malays are always perceived as lazy and non industrious. This has been pointed out by Tan Sri Dr Mahathir Mohd in his book entitled "Malay Dilemma". They were claimed to have lack of the right values to do business. However, this was just claimed without any empirical evidence to prove so. Therefore, the study shared in this book reveals the true values of Malay owner managers. Interestingly, what is claimed by Tan Sri Dr Mahathir Mohamad about Malays was partially wrong. Majority Malays were hard working and disciplined. Environment has no influence on their entrepreneurial orientations. What makes some owner managers different from other owner managers were their personal values of hard work and discipline and their level of self efficacy. Surprisingly the common values among them were honesty and collectivism. These were the values that might have made those with less hard work and discipline to survive.
