The aim of this exploratory study was twofold; to assess the common types of vaginal infection among women during childbearing period; and to prepare a plan of action for women suffering from vaginitis. Four hundred women having abnormal vaginal discharge, and attending Gynecology Clinics at El-manial University Hospital, Cairo University, Egypt were recruited for the study. Data were collected through an interviewing questionnaire schedule, physical and vaginal examination,laboratory investigations, and follow up sheet. The study results indicated that the mean age of the sample was 31.44 ± 6.14 years old,43% of the sample can not read and write, and the prevalence of vaginal infections among the total sample was(58.8%) had vaginal infection; Vulvovaginal Candidiasis was affecting 41%, Bacterial vaginosis was affecting 10.2%, 6% had Trichomonas Vaginalis infection, and six women (1.6%) had mixed infection. Considering the health educational program, women who received health teaching and follow up reported relieved symptoms of vaginitis and the cure rate was generally high with a highly statistically significant difference (negative vaginal swab).
