Synopsis
Cette étude a abordé l'origine, le développement et l'impact de l'industrie socioculturelle, économique et politique de l'industrie de la stéatite à Kisii depuis le début de l'ère coloniale (1895) ainsi que l'effet de différents aspects de l'industrie de la stéatite sur la culture Kisii, et vice versa, jusqu'à la fin de la période d'étude. Les objectifs de la recherche étaient de documenter les utilisations de diverses sculptures en stéatite, de tenir compte des facteurs qui ont influencé les changements dans les utilisations de la stéatite, de déterminer les effets des forces du marché sur les industries de stéatite, d'évaluer l'impact de la sculpture sur la culture de la communauté locale et de faire des recommandations sur la façon d'améliorer l'industrie de la stéatite à Kisii. Cette recherche a utilisé la théorie des moyens de subsistance durables pour examiner et expliquer les origines, l'évolution et les différents changements qui ont eu lieu dans la production, la distribution et le développement de l'industrie de la stéatite dans la région de Kisii. Un moyen de subsistance comprend les capacités, les actifs (y compris les ressources matérielles et sociales) et les activités nécessaires pour un mode de vie.
