Kenya has made positive steps towards improving Special Needs Education. But reading among learners with hearing impairments still remain a challenge. Embossed picture technique has not been used in learning institutions in Kenya to teach reading to learners with hearing impairments. This book recommends the use of Embossed picture technique to teach reading to learners in lower classes when learners are being introduced to reading, to give a strong reading background to learners as they use other active senses of sight, touch, feel and smell to maximize their ability to read, to learn and to understand.

Sella Mikali Munyendo has Masters Degree in Special Needs Education from Kenyatta University. Works as an Assistant Lecturer at Sebastian Kolowa Memorial University (SEKOMU)Tanzania.Has 26 years experience of classroom teaching learners with hearing impairments in Kenya and currently pursuing a PhD in Special Needs Education at Kenyatta University.
