Le concept de design durable est devenu un nouveau paradigme. La durabilité combine les aspects économiques, environnementaux et sociaux de la conception de processus. Dans notre recherche, toutes les métriques disponibles, les outils utilisés pour la quantification sociale avec une bonne définition, une description et une méthodologie de calcul sont examinés. Ensuite, un nouvel outil est proposé qui prend en compte à la fois la sécurité inhérente et la quantification de la santé au travail pour la conception de processus durables. La méthode est adaptée à l'étape de recherche et de développement du processus en n'incluant que les propriétés chimiques et les conditions de fonctionnement du processus qui peuvent être obtenues au stade précoce de la conception. L'approche est démontrée pour les deux procédés alternatifs de production DME et pour le boîtier de base et la production d'acrylonitrile optimisé en utilisant le moteur de simulation ASPEN PLUS. Avec l'aide de l'échelle d'indice standard développée et de l'évaluateur de durabilité modernisé, la meilleure conception de processus socialement durable est évaluée.
