Synopsis

With the advent of MRI a non ionizing mode of diagnostic radiology has improvised the area of diagnosis,thereby enabling the clinician in formulating accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. The anatomy of maxillofacial structures is very complex and the underlying pathology may go undetected with routine conventional radiology and computed tomography (CT).Although CT gives more details pertaining to the pathology of hard tissues, the soft tissue pathology including extent, lesion-normal tissue interface,proximity to adjacent vital structures is best appreciated with MRI.This hand book provides an overview of the basics of MRI and the applications in pathology arising within the maxillofacial complex.

Dr. Kavitha Puttaswamy has completed her post graduation in Oral Medicine and Radiology in the year 2012. She is working as an Assistant professor in the Department of Oral medicine and Radiology.Diagnosis and management of oral potentially malignant disorders is her field of interest. She is actively involved in research projects in her specialty.
